“I’m Ready” - says a Mastermind Japan’s classic loose fit black t-shirt from Pre-20th Vol. 2 drop, the first mainline drop of 2017. As the designer commented in the past, “the skull is part of me and means ‘Hold on to your dream until you die'” after his final collection back in 2013 at Tokyo Fashion Week, the second drop of Pre-20th collection perhaps hint at Mastermind Japan’s dream as it embraces its 20th year.
November 2016 marked Mastermind Japan’s Pre-20th year anniversary collection launch and now the collection’s second drop is available at KOKKO. Pre-20th Vol. 2 is made of Japan-made streetwear featuring oversized fits, quality hardwares, original logos as well as newly designed rock-inspired graphics.
The rock band tour merch style trend was recently adopted by names like Kanye West, Justin Bieber, Demna Gvasalia of Vetements and Balenciaga. For Mastermind Japan, the American rock band Metallica’s font design and thunder motifs are used to re-interpret the original skull & cross bone logo. Other rock-inspired designs include cotton t-shirts or oversized pullover hoodies with printed lyrics of “My Way” by punk rocker Sid Vicious.
